UMG Neuheiten Lucy Woodward - Hooked!

Verve Forecast
Release Date: 6/15/2010

A self-described "modern day torch record", Hooked! (June 15, Verve) from Lucy Woodward completes a reinvention of the Brit-born, American raised singer and songwriter from pop chart wannabee (2003's "Dumb Girls" ditty) to the more adult-themed stylist embracing jazz, cabaret, soul and funk/pop. "As you get older and make more music, you gain a better understanding of who you are and what you need to feel satisfied," says the 32-year-old Woodward. "That's what this record is for me." Produced primarily by legendary studioman Tony Visconti (David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Morrissey), the eleven songs on Hooked! take the transition realized on her independent '08 album Lucy Woodward Is...Hot and Bothered to an even more sophisticated and showstoppingly sultry new level.

In addition to Woodward's originals -- including a reworking of her H+B track "Slow Recovery" -- the new album makes room for a handful of covers: the rare Peggy Lee number "Sans Souci," Hoagy Carmichael's classic standard "Stardust" and "I Wan'na Be Like You (The Monkey Song)," from Disney's animated film The Jungle Book. Fellow Verve artist Nellie McKay contributes (and sings backup on) "Another Woman", a song written specifically for Woodward. The overall feel of the project is loose and soulful with Woodward's vocals showing distinctive range and control, from come-hither playfulness to bold, brassy assertion to a more fragile vulnerability.
