1991 was quite a remarkable year, when a certain MC Loulou (Serge’s baby nickname, by the way) & Les Standardistes – the operators, for our non-native speakers ;-) – invented the art of mash-up with Gaston, y’a l’téléfon, flavoring a delirious dancefloor tune, based on Nino Ferrer’s Le téléfon, with splinters from miscellaneous other Nino Ferrer tunes, from Les cornichons to Je veux être noir – a clever, weird and whacky homage to an uncompromised artist, reminiscent of the intertextual fun coolness of Dutch 80s entrepreneurs Gruppo Sportivo.
