A Night At The Met
So, last night, major happenings in NYC! The Costume Institute Gala brought out many an A-lister to The Met and I just happened to be eyeing the red carpet as the stars were arriving. And by happened to be there, I mean I walked by on my way home and was across the street, stuck behind paparazzi and other ecstatic, not to mention screaming and waving (yes I waved) fans like myself. Although I didn't get a chance to see my love George Clooney (so upset!), I did show up just in time to catch a glimpse of actual superheroes welcoming guests at the bottom of The Met stairs, Mr. Big, Jason Lewis (hard to believe, but even more good-looking in person) the Beckhams, Tom and Katie, J.Lo, MKO (oh sorry, aka my abbreviation for Mary-Kate Olsen, who I'm sure just loved hearing my shout out to her and her sister), Mr. Lagerfeld himself, Blake Lively (so excited to see Serena considering I was missing Monday's ep. of Gossip Girl to star gaze), Valentino, Bonjovi, Eva Longoria and the list goes on.Nicest/biggest smiles/longest waves to the crowd - J.Lo, Valentino and Tom Cruise (maybe it was just an act considering all of his bad publicity lately, but he did look genuinely nice)
Celeb who I wish I could have seen turn around - David Beckham (A bus decided to block my view, just as his gorgeousness turned toward the crowd)

Katie says Nicole's pregnancy is "wonderful"
Tom Cruise escorted Katie Holmes – in a dazzling strapless Armani dress – to her premiere, but made sure not to steal the spotlight from his wife. Instead he let her work the press solo while he walked across the street to sign autographs and take photos with fans. The actor was similarly supportive during the making of Mad Money, Holmes said. "Having [20-month-old daughter] Suri and Tom [on set] was wonderful," she added. "You think you love to do something and then you have the people you love there. It makes it a billion times better and you didn't realize you were missing that before. It's like 'Oh my God, life can be this good.'" Katie Holmes only had kind wishes for Nicole Kidman. "I'm so happy for her," Holmes, 29, says of Kidman's pregnancy news. "It's wonderful." Kidman, 40, confirmed earlier this week that she and husband Keith Urban are expecting their first child together. The actress has two adopted children – Connor, 12, and Isabella, 15 – with ex-husband Tom Cruise.
Tom Cruise extortion suspect arrested
FBI arrested a 47-year-old man earlier this week for his alleged role in attempting to extort Tom Cruise. David Hans Schmidt is being held on $100,000 bail for attempting to sell the actor stolen private photos from his wedding to Katie Holmes last November. Schmidt was asking for more than $1 million for the pics. Cruise's reps immediately contacted the FBI when they were approached about the photos earlier this year. Schmidt has a history of contacting celebs, including Paris Hilton, Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx, in the hopes of selling private photos or video back to them after they have been stolen.source
Tom to star in spy thriller?
Columbia Pictures is reportedly developing a spy thriller possibly for Tom Cruise. According to Variety, Hotel Rwanda director Terry George is in talks for the film, based on a script about CIA officer Edwin A. Salt, who was accused of being a Russian sleeper spy. Cruise's next project to hit theaters is Robert Redford's Lions for Lambs, due out this fall, and he is currently in early production on the controversial Valkyrie.

Stars show up for Posh and Becks
Victoria and David Beckham were welcomed to the U.S. last night in a star-studded bash thrown by pals Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. Held at the LA Museum of Contemporary Art, the party was attended by Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, Brooke Shields and husband Chris Henchy, Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy, Bruce Willis, Eva Longoria, Quincy Jones and director Ron Howard. Cruise flew in for the weekend from the set of the controversial Valkyrie in Germany. "It was so much fun!" said a fellow guest of the event, which featured British classics such as bangers and mash along with American chow like burgers and fries.
Posh party this Sunday
As reported earlier today, Victoria and David Beckham are having a posh party thrown in their honor this weekend by Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. The private party will be held at LA's Museum of Contemporary Art on Sunday, and the invitations read, "Please join Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes and Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith in welcoming David and Victoria Beckham to Los Angeles" in gold lettering on deep gold card stock. Geez, you'd think these people were actually important, the way everyone is carrying on.source
Tom Cruise banned from filming in Germany
Germany has barred Tom Cruise and the producers of Valkyrie, a movie about a plot to kill Adolf Hitler from filming scenes at German military sites because of Cruise's beliefs in Scientology. The German government does not recognize the Church of Scientology as a church, claiming it masquerades as a religion to make money. Cruise is set to play real life colonel Claus con Stauffenberg, who led an unsuccessful attempt to assassinate Hitler with a bomb in his briefcase in July, 1944. A spokesperson for Germany's Ministry of Defense said the producers "will not be allowed to film at German military sites if Count Stauffenberg is played by Tom Cruise, who has publicly professed to being a member of the Scientology cult... In general, the [German military] has a special interest in the serious and authentic portrayal of the events of July 20, 1944 and Stauffenberg's person."
Tom to preside over Scientology wedding?
Tom Cruise has reached the highest level in Scientology, referred to as "clear," and reportedly may perform a wedding ceremony for his friend, Australian heir James Packer. According to Women's Wear Daily, Packer is one of the Church of Scientology's richest benefactors after inheriting $6.5 billion from his father last year. A mystery guest, believed to be Packer, has booked the entire Grand Hotel du Cap-Ferrat and the Hotel du Cap-Eden Roc, presumably for guest of his nuptials, set to take place on Wednesday on France's Cote d'Azur.source
Baby plans for TomKat
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes "definitely" have plans for another TomKitten. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight to air Monday, Holmes replied, "Yes, definitely," when asked if the couple were planning to expand their family. "We're having the best time, it's so amazing," Holmes added. "We have so many kids in our house, there's always this wonderful chatter and the great noise of kids." Of her husband's adopted children with ex Nicole Kidman, Conner and Bella, Holmes describes them as "so sweet, they're so great with Suri and she lights up when she sees them." Of Cruise himself, she says, "He's a great father and so it came to no shock that when we had Suri he was amazing with the baby." It seems the couple is raising their 1-year-old with manners - the owner of a Louisiana children's store received a thank-you card from Suri herself after Holmes visited the shop. "Katie was really friendly. When she came in she walked up and introduced herself and Suri. We probably had three other kids in here. She complimented everybody else's children and said how cute they were. She was really sweet," said the shop owner. Shortly after the visit, the store were surprised to receive a thank-you note printed on Suri's very own embossed stationary. "The stationary is cream-colored with 'Suri Cruise' embossed across the top," said the shop owner.
Porn star wants Katie's moniker
Katie Holmes is fuming after learning that a fashion student with plans of becoming a porn star has changed her name to Katee Holmes. "It's a really cheap shot," says a rep for the actress. A manager for the future porn star, who will be launching her career by losing her virginity on film, says, "Katee is using the name as a tribute to Katie, who has always portrayed an innocence in everything she's done, beginning with Dawson's Creek." The real Holmes's management team is reportedly weighing the actress's legal options. "It's really kind of sleazy, using her name like that," says a friend of the star. And a rep for Cruise adds, "Obviously, Tom would support Katie in anything she decides to do about it." Tom Cruise and Suri recently visited Holmes on the set of Mad Money in Louisiana.

Take a peek inside the $32.5 million home recently purchased by Tom Cruise (photos were taken before Cruise took ownership). The estate boasts two satellite buildings to accompany the main house, which the previous owner used as a gym and screening room. It is rumored that TomKat will convert them to guest homes to house family members and Scientology "minders."
Tom plunks down $35 mil for new house
Tom Cruise has bought a seven-bedroom Beverly Hills estate for an estimated $35 million. According to insiders, the 70-year-old home was not actually up for sale when the War of the Worlds star made his offer. The new pad will replace the Beverly Hills home Cruise has been renting for the past four years, and will house wife Katie Holmes, children Suri, Connor, and Isabella, as well as his sister and her family and his mom.
Jenna Elfman defends TomKat
Scientologist actress Jenna Elfman is defending Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes's relationship amid reports that the couple's five-month marriage is not a happy one. "Honestly, they're happy," says the pregnant actress. "They have a great life and they love each other. For some reason, the media cannot experience that. They must put in things other than the simplicity of it." Elfman says recent tabloid stories that Cruise controls Holmes and forced her into Scientology are definitely false. "It's totally irrelevant, because it's so absolutely not that," she says. "It's hard to give a detailed explanation on something that simple. Honestly, do any of you have a great boyfriend or girlfriend? It's not a big deal, right? You have fun hanging out, and you like talking and sharing your ideas. It's exciting. That's their relationship."source
TomKat host Scientology fundraiser
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes rolled into NYC last night to host a $6,250-a-head fundraiser for his controversial 9/11 detoxification program. Cruise is co-founder of the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project, based (of course) on principles of Scientology. The free treatment involves large doses of vitamins, dietary changes and regular trips to the sauna. Despite NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg's denouncement of the program as "not science" on Wednesday, Cruise received plenty of approval for the project. "He said how grateful he was to everyone for supporting the project," the president of NYC's paramedics and EMT union said of Cruise. "He took time out to speak to every person. It took him an hour to get through the hallway. He was talking to everyone. It was genuine, nothing phony about it."
Suri's first birthday
Happy birthday, Suri Cruise! The adorable celebrity offspring of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes turns one today. Reps for the couple would not release details of Suri's birthday celebrations, but she is believed joining mom in Shreveport, Louisiana, where Holmes is filming Mad Money with Queen Latifah and Diane Keaton.
Woman arrested outside Tom and Katie's house
A woman was arrested in front of Tom Cruise's Beverly Hills estate. The 32-year-old transient was arrested for receiving stolen property and violating a court order, though the terms of that order are unclear. The woman is currently being held on $45,000 bail in a Beverly Hills jail. The same woman was ordered to stay 500 feet away from actor John Cusack late last year after Cusack claimed she showed "an unusual interest by stalking, throwing a long letter of interest over my fence in bags with rocks and screwdrivers inside."
Family concerned over Cruise's religion
The grandson of German officer Claus Schenk Graf Von Stauffenberg has expressed his family's concerns about plans for Tom Cruise to play his grandfather in an upcoming film about the would-be assassin's attempt to kill Adolph Hitler. "I have nothing against him and can even separate his work from his beliefs in Scientology," said Stauffenberg's grandson. "But I and other family members are worried that the picture will be financed by the sect and be used to get across its propaganda. Unfortunately the family Stauffenberg can do nothing about this. My grandfather is a figure from history."source
Tom to star in World War II drama
Tom Cruise has signed on to star in a war drama based on a true story about an attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler at the height of the second world war. Cruise was originally slated to produce the film, but after a number of meetings was offered the lead role. "After reading the script, Tom and I knew immediately that this was a film that we had to make," Cruise's production partner said. "As an added bonus, because of [director] Bryan Singer's involvement and Tom's admiration for him as a filmmaker, as well as the excellence of the script, the project attracted Tom as an actor. I cannot think of a more perfect combination of creative elements for our second production." Does this woman's over-the-top gushing make anyone else want to vomit?source
