Pete and Ashlee to marry this weekend! Both celebrated bachelor slash bachelorette parties last night. Pete, accompanied by Joe Simpson, his bandmates and Joel Madden, began at LA's Mr. Chow, followed by a party in the Marilyn Monroe suite at Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. As for Ashlee, she spent the evening at the luxury lingerie store Kiki De Montparnasse. 
Since California's Supreme Court turned down the law banning gay marriage, Ellen DeGeneres announced yesterday that she and girlfriend Portia de Rossi are engaged. Congrats!

Jessica fights for her man
Jessica Simpson is fighting mad over a recent OK! magazine article claiming she was dumped by Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. TMZ.com first reported that Simpson's lawyers had fired off a strongly-worded letter demanding a retraction for an article which claims Romo broke up with the singer because she was high-maintenance. The letter referred to the article as a "smear campaign." Her lawyers insist: "Mr Romo and Ms Simpson have not broken off their romantic relationship." A rep for Simpson confirms that the singer's lawyer sent a letter to OK! but had no additional comment. A source close to Simpson says, "Jess and Tony did not break up. OK!'s story was full of lies."source
Jessica avoids run-in
It could have been awkward for Jessica Simpson and her new beau, Tony Romo, had they gone to Costa Rica with her sister, Ashlee, as they planned last weekend, rather than to Cabo San Lucas. Spies at the Four Seasons in Costa Rica said Ashlee was there with bo-hunk Pete Wentz - and staying next door at the exclusive resort was Jessica's ex, Nick Lachey, with his girlfriend, Vanessa Minnillo. Instead, Jessica flew to Mexico where she, Romo, several of his teammates, and her parents hung out at a private villa.
Jessica hard at work on country album
After her bad luck at the box office, Jessica Simpson is hoping to bounce back with a country music career. "I am a country girl," she says in a new interview with Billboard.com. "I grew up in Texas, and country music was what I listened to. I always wanted to make a country album, but I wanted to wait until the time was right." She also cites Martina McBride, Shania Twain, Faith Hill and Reba McEntire as inspirations, adding, "I think there is a strength in female country artists." She won't reveal her songwriting collaborators, but tells the website: "Writing is a release for me. It's a way for me to tell my story. That's not to say I wouldn't record a song that I didn't write. It's just that it has been a while since I have opened the book." Simpson is still not certain if she'll hit the road to support the disc, which is due later this year. "Since the record is in the beginning stages, there hasn't been much talk about a tour just yet," she says.

Happy birthday Jessica Simpson! The singer celebrated her 27th birthday at the Silver Spoon Beach Body house in Malibu on Tuesday, but had to move the event after paparazzi tracked her down. Simpson donned a white summer dress to lunch with five pals at the private home rented out for celebrity events, and had planned an evening barbecue with more friends and family before changing the venue to her folks' place. "It was a private party and they wanted to keep it private," said a source close to the birthday girl. "She was there with all of her closest friends and family. She had a great time. It was a great night."
Jessica's bad film delayed
Things aren't looking good for Jessica Simpson's Blonde Ambition movie. Sources says the release date has been pushed by twice - by her manager and dad Joe Simpson! - because...well, basically, it sucks. "First, the release date was set for August 3, and then it was delayed until the last week of August," says a source. "Papa Joe then intervened and said he wasn't comfortable with the level of competition from other films that month." According to another insider, "Jessica was not very focused on set and flubbed her lines often. She always had her dog around, was on the phone with [then] boyfriend John Mayer or was sitting in a warmed-up SUV." The movie is reportedly not even finished yet, and currently has no official release date.source

Jessica Simpson is launching a bikini line to go along with her rapidly expanding business ventures, which include a skincare empire, hair extension project, shoe and clothing lines and plans for lingerie designs. Simpson will reportedly debut the swimwear during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Miami next month. Featuring skimpy bikinis and more modest one-piece suits, the designs will be shown on models personally selected by the singer.
Jessica and John: dunzo, again
Jessica Simpson and John Mayer are "off" again - and this time maybe for good. "It has been rocky and it had been rocky, and it reached the end of the road," a source close to Mayer told People mag. "It is definitely over - the relationship has ended." On Simpson's side, the story's not so clear cut. "They broke up Sunday night, but who knows what the future will hold," says a source close to Simpson. "This is the twelfth time they've broken up. Their relationship is volatile. Last week they felt better than ever. This week, things are rocky. Who knows what the future will bring?" The couple announced their split last month, but reconciled shortly after. "They tried to make it work. They dated for a year," says the Mayer source, and who added that the pair's recent trip to Cabo was an attempt "to talk things over... Every relationship has its differences, but with Jessica and John those differences were starting to become more and more apparent."

PageSix has some Cannes gossip... After months of denying their affair, Rose McGowan and Grindhouse director Robert Rodriguez arrived as a couple to the Death Proof premiere. Rosario Dawson also found love on set and walked the red carpet with Eli Roth, who directed a Grindhouse trailer for a fake horror film. Jessica Simpson also caused a stir at a private yacht party by spending "the whole night following Leonardo Dicaprio around like a lost puppy," says a source. "He just seemed freaked out and kind of ignored her."

Jessica Simpson is becoming thoughtful in her old age. The public affair singer is getting in touch with her inner self, telling fans on her website that Michaelangelo is helping her find inner peace. "I just got back from spending some time in Europe, and while I was there I visited many museums, and have been reading about different artists. I have also been writing a lot in my journal recently. I was reading a book about Michaelangelo and there were 2 quotes that caught my attention - 'I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free' and 'Each time we face our fear, we gain strength, courage, and confidence in the doing.' Jessica working on lingerie collection
Jessica Simpson is reportedly working on a lingerie line, inspired by her own frustration with not being able to find a good selection of bras with big cup sizes. "Launching this fall 2007, the line consists of lingerie, night/loungewear and day styles," says the website for Vestiny Apparel, Inc., who Simpson is teaming up with for the collection. "Initially launching in major department and specialty stores nationwide this fall, the line looks to expand worldwide by fall of 2008." Simpson is quoted as saying, "The collection is fun, flirty and exactly what I would want to wear."

Jessica "very happy" since the split
A back-to-blond Jessica Simpson is doing fine since her split from John Mayer. While promoting her flick Major Movie Star in Cannes, Simpson was asked about the breakup and replied, "I am very happy, but I don't really want to talk about my personal life tonight because it's not what it's about. But I am very happy. I will let you know that."

Update on the Jessica Simpson/John Mayer split rumor... It's true! "They have broken up," a source told People mag. "But they have broken up and gotten back together at least ten times before." The pair are still in constant contact, however, emailing and talking to each other many times a day. "They talk to each other at least six times a day," says the source. "I don't know if this breakup is permanent, but for right now they are broken up." As for the reason for the split, a source close to Mayer says, "John did say that he broke up [with Jessica]. He said that it was because he was just over it... He's fine about it, he's not upset - but he's definitely not looking for someone right now." Reps for both stars have declined to comment.
Splitsville for Jess and John?
Are things over for Jessica Simpson and John Mayer? Perez Hilton says they are. TMZ cameras caught Mayer clubbing solo at NYC's Stereo last night, while Simpson is in Cannes to promote her movie career. A rep for Mayer refused to comment on the singer's personal life, and Simpson's rep has not been reached.
John gets Papa Simpson's approval
Jessica Simpson's dad seems to be taking a healthier approach to her new relationship than he did with her former husband Nick Lachey. "If Jessica is in love, I love the things she is in love with," Joe Simpson says of his daughter's relationship with John Mayer. "I want her to be happy. I'm always a fan of his. I love him - he's got great music... I think the beautiful thing is that [Jessica and John] don't do the same thing. He's a legend already. There's no competition. He's a guitarist, that's his thing. Jessica is a singer. She doesn't play guitar, so there's no competition.source
