Sixteen-year-old Nikki Yanofsky is poised to break out as one of the year's most-exciting new artists with her self-titled CD Nikki. The press has hailed Yanofsky as a "young Ella Fitzgerald"--from jazz to originals, she is among the most unique vocalists in recent time. She has been captivating audiences from jazz festivals around the world and most recently appeared at the 2010 Winter Olympics. Her song "I Believe" has sold 4x platinum in Canada, garnering the highest first week of any Canadian artist in Soundscan history.Nikki is produced by 15-time Grammy®-winning producer Phil Ramone and Grammy® winning songwriter / producer Jesse Harris (best known for his work on Norah Jones' Come Away With Me). "For Another Day" is the focus track and will be worked at AAA radio in the coming months. PBS pledge show Live From Montreal will begin airing in all major markets in May 2010.

With Norah Jones choosing to pursue a career as a Bohemian singer/songwriter (and Nellie McKay revealing herself to be too artfully camp to even consider the mainstream), the door was wide open for a singer like Nikki Yanofsky: a bright, cheerful jazz-pop traditionalist happy to sing those old songs once again. And so she does on here 2010 debut, Nikki, produced in tandem by the legendary Phil Ramone and Jesse Harris, the guitarist/songwriter who came to prominence via his work on Jones' debut Come Away with Me, where he penned her breakthrough hit "Don't Know Why." Harris performs a similar function on Yanofsky's debut, co-writing the bulk of the non-classics here with the assistance of Ron Sexsmith and Yanofsky herself, crafting smooth, assured soft rock that's of a piece with the sultriness of Come Away with Me (with the notable exception of the cabaret swing of "Bienvenue Dans Ma Vie"). But Nikki Yanofsky is clearly not Norah Jones: she possesses a puppy-dog eagerness that jibes with her 16 years, happy to perform and please. There's an innate brightness to her persona that is beguiling, particularly when she's singing those numbers written with Harris and Sexsmith, songs that feel timeless and contemporary and take full advantage of her sunny nature. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

2010 debut studio album from the young Canadian sensation, whose recording of 'I Believe'- the official theme song of CTV's Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games - has been certified triple platinum. Nikki was produced by 15-time Grammy-winning producer Phil Ramone and Grammy-winning songwriter and producer Jesse Harris. It is a collection of newly arranged standards, classic selections from the American Songbook and elegant originals Yanofsky co-wrote with Harris, Canadian singer-songwriter Ron Sexsmith and others. A composition written for Yanofsky by acclaimed Canadian songstress Feist also appears on the album.

From the time she was 16 years old, Martine Groulx has immersed herself in music. A true firecracker, the singer-songwriter is undaunted by the task of balancing the many facets of her career. Her passion is fuelled by the mission in which she has invested herself, as she aims to ensure that the local music scene gets its proper due.

Her first Album, Empty Picture Frames, was released in 2004. At the time, the project was a duo, in which Martine sang alongside Gabriel Rousseau, who is now a member of the bands Statue Park and Chinatown. Following a cross-Canada tour and a few significant hurdles, Martine decided to go it alone.

The result? A wellspring of new sounds, new stories, and a fresh direction. As Martine sat down to compose her second album, Different Paths, released November 2006, and proved that Camaromance was nowhere near ready to be put up on blocks.

The subjects of love, life, and death are all dealt with in an elegant fashion in her folk-pop compositions, as they reach out and grab listeners, whether she is alone with her guitar on stage or backed up by her musicians. For fans of pretty girls that rip your heart out, guitar in hand.

Nominated for Most Unpronounceable Band Name and 28 Balloons nominated for Best Song To Listen to in the Fetal Position by The CBC Radio 3 Bucky Awards 2007. Camaromance is currently recording a new album, The Parade, produced by Serge Nakauchi Pelletier which should be released at the beginning of 2010.

Sarah McLachlan - "Loving You Is Easy" (from The Laws of Illusion)

Laws of Illusion, beloved Canadian singer/songwriter Sarah Mclachlan's first studio album in nearly seven years, was recorded in Montreal and Vancouver under the watchful eye and keen ear of longtime collaborator/producer Pierre Marchand, and features the song "One Dream," which Mclachlan wrote for the 2009 Vancouver Winter Olympics' Opening Ceremony.

The Laws of Illusion (2010)

For her first studio album since 2003's Afterglow, Sarah McLachlan partners again with longtime producer and collaborator Pierre Marchand for a collection of new songs that are earmarked with the traditional McLachlan style: sweeping piano-based melodies set above a rich instrumental background that -- if conceivable -- sound even more luxuriant than previously. Much has happened with McLachlan personally since she last stepped foot in the studio -- the birth of her second child, the dissolution of her eleven-year marriage -- but here we are again as if nothing had changed: a new album, a revived, decidedly more massive Lilith Fair concert series this summer and that remarkable McLachlan voice telling tales of love and life.

"Sadness is painful. Growth is painful," McLachlan reflects. "It's the process of being re-born and that's where you grow and change. That's the stuff that I work toward. In my darkest days, I would tell myself, "This is good. I am growing from this and I am learning from this and I will be better because of what is happening." Lead single "Loving You Is Easy", a self-described "happy song", is a unbeat serving of spangled, Beatle-ish piano pop. "It’s been a roller coaster these last few years for sure,” she says. “A lot of emotional highs and lows. I did get a taste of finding love again, which is certainly what this song is all about. The delirious, overwhelming flush of new possibilities." Look for a deluxe version of Illusion that features a 30-minute in-studio "making of" DVD. TV appearances after the jump.

Canada 加拿大 Sarah Harmer - O Little Fire

Artist Site

Sarah Harmer - "Captive" (from O Little Fire)

It's been a decade since Canadian singer/songwriter Sarah Harmer's You Were Here brought her breakthrough success, landing in Time's Top 10 listing and hailed as "Debut Album of the Year." With an armful of exceptional songs and what the NY Times calls a "beautiful, precise voice", the Juno-nominated Harmer has charmed the most cynical critic over the course of three solo albums, the most recent -- 2005's I'm A Mountain -- winning accolades for its more traditionally inspired acoustic folk sound. Now in a stylistic about face, Harmer describes her upcoming new album O Little Fire, due June 22 via Zoë/Rounder, as "much more of an electric album" adding that "it definitely rocks a lot more."

Co-produced with Gavin Brown (Metric), Harmer's return to a more upbeat direction on Fire is evident on the effervescent lead single "Captive," a song that has more in common with Leslie Feist and Ingrid Michaelson than her previous rootsy Mountain songs. "I specifically tried to get out of the pastoral, contemplative end of the spectrum and went for a more direct, aggressive style of production," she observes. Recorded in various locations, from Brown's Toronto studio to a hotel room vocal session with guest Neko Case, O Little Fire brings Harmer back from what she calls her "wilderness years", focusing on worthy environmental causes, and assuredly, vibrantly onto the musical stage again. Highly recommended.
